 Capacity Market Registration

Introduction

The Capacity Market, which replaces the current SEM Capacity Payments Mechanism (CPM), is a mechanism to ensure that electricity supply in Ireland continues to meet demand. The market exists to ensure there is adequate supply or load-management capacity on the grid to cope with times of system stress.

The Capacity Market provides those Generators and Interconnectors that clear in the Auction with a regular Capacity Payment that assists with funding existing and future generation capacity.

Participation

Participation is currently limited to capacity providers on the island of Ireland. All existing Interconnectors and Dispatchable Generator Units that are required to register for the Balancing Market (BM) must apply to be qualified to participate in Capacity Auctions for each Capacity Year. Any New Capacity wishing to join the market must hold a Connection Offer and Implementation Plan before submitting forms for the Qualification Process. Participation is voluntary for Generators below the De Minimis Threshold (>10MW), variable wind units and uncommissioned new units.

Registration & Qualification Forms

Please note that as per the approved Capacity Auction Timetable application for the Qualification Process for 2022/2023 T-4 Capacity Auction is now open.

The "Capacity Market Existing Party Qualification Forms" pack is to be completed by Existing Parties that are registered as a Party to the Capacity Market Code. The C02 form contained in this pack is only for registered Parties wishing to add new PAUs. The C11 form contained in this pack is only for registered Parties wishing to register a New Unit in the Capacity Market.

The "Capacity Market  New Party & Unit Registration and Qualification Forms" pack is to be completed by new Parties registering and seeking to qualify new Units in the Capacity Market.

*Application for the Qualification Process for 2019/2020 T-1 Capacity Auction is now closed.*
